FLIR Tools App Reviews

15 Customer Reviews:

A good start, users can edit thermal images and add more detail from the companion digital picture, then export. However there are some rough edges that the FLIR software engineers could address: 1. View order and display preferences cannot be set globally, nor retained when switching directories. You can select the files displayed in the order you choose, but as soon as you look at another directory, you get the app default settings. 2. Likewise the app doesn’t remember directory paths last used. If you deviate from the folder structure FLIR thinks you should use for your files, you get to navigate through a Finder window each and every time you import and export. This feels like a Windows app where MS dictates you use their silly “My Photos” directory but can’t override the app to use another permanently. 3. The “Instruments” tab doesn’t support the C2 camera, only their much more expensive professional tools. So if you want to look at a live stream from a C2, you’re out of luck. All in all, a solid and useful program. A few minor tweaks and it could be really good by supporting the workflow you define, not the one it dictates.

Doesnt see my FLIR I7 camera

So thats useless. Plus they demanded I fill out a form with my personal information before just giving me a link to this. Super shady.

Application works alright but is not a perfect substitute for the real software provided by the company. The editting function on this version is limited. The line tool is a nightmare compared to the real thing and the zoom button definitely does not work so analysis can be difficult. Flir should fix these problems! I prefer to do my edits/ analysis with the real software on my work computer and use this as a backup on my personal computer.

Good tool, but not user friendlyfor some stuff: When you cange the order of the files in a folder, then change/edit a photo ang go back to the library it’s back to « default » and not the order selected previously. If by mistake you erase a file, there is no confirmation button or cancel button. When it comes to edit a Report: can’t change the pictures order, can’t put more than 2 IR pictures on the same page (even with a home made temple) Had some blockage when wanted to change emissivity. Can’t put it on « manual »: only the pre-selected settings worked. for the rest editing IR is super cool. Also had a problem when going live with my E60, i have no live picture on the computer and no measurements on the camera. may be some settings to adjust. I need to investigate.

Does not autodetect T300 camera ( circa 2013 ) which is puzzling. Images can be manually imported into camera but interface is not very intuitive. Combining IR images with their matching digital visual images in a basic report does not appear to be possible with this program. Previous free versions of FLIR software accomplished much more which was great for thermographers getting started in the field. Releasing a product like this without improving on the capabilities of the past accomplishments has essentially left many entry and mid-level thermographers stranded until something within their budget comes along to work with new Operating Systems. Previous customers are left to find their own workarounds. SUMMARY: Okay for a free app but this is really a hobby level program designed to be compatible with FLIR’s newest cameras. Not sure who the target market for this app would be.

It is a good app for making my reports. It is a shame that FLIR tools does not allow streaming from my camera. If I use PC it will. FLIR needs to fix this as to not alienate Mac users.

Clunky interface, poor importing, does not allow for live streaming and use of camera despite the feature apparently being built in. Having to close and re-open an image to refresh measurements (otherwise will display ones from a previous/different image). Overall, very poor execution, and I only use it because there is no alternative.

This is a really good try for the first go round. Especially if you use a mac and prefer not to have a Windows installation. There is a quirk when importing photos. I have both visible light and IR images on the SD Card, it imports the visible light images and reports that there are duplicates in the database that it did not import. When I then open the folder it only shows the visible light photos, but when I select a photo, the IR photo is attached to it. When this happens, I can not edit the IR photos. It seems to be completely random.

Finally a Mac version of a great program. Customizable header and footer, with custom logo capability. Report can be presented in various layouts, making it your own.

But it doesnt seem ready for real world. On my second import from camera, Im running into a bug where a dozen images became lost after import. Im unable to re-import because the app thinks the images are duplicates. App does not allow duplicates on import. Its possible to delete the folder and re-import but the images in question are still thought to be duplicates by the app. Unable to create sub-folders of existing folders or drag images to different folders. Occasionally have a problem where the application hides itself whenever I click on its open window. Report generation seems easy. The delta temperature tool is useful. I would like a way to edit an image and then immediately go to next image rather than going back to the library and selecting the next image. Happy to see FLIR offer something for OSX. Hopefully they will make it stronger.

On the plus side, you can edit your photos after they were taken. This means adding or deleting diagnostic tools, in my case leaving the box in for the dev team and removing for marketing materials (too much info). On the down side, I am unable to save changes. When I click save the image reverts. The help manual is essentially a long PDF that would be great if I could download it to my table and use the table of contents (which drop box allows) but without search is unusable in the current format. So my workaround is to take a screenshot. In conclusion, like others have said I applaud the effort and it works, but doesnt work well or for power users. Look forward to next 2.0!

Now its a good program, albeit still pretty basic.. But at least they fixed the previous two glaring defects. Now you can ‘drag’ an image out of your library and into an email, or anywhere, without it being removed from the library and crashing the program. And they did get the spot #’s on the image to transfer to the Report. However, if you drag the image out of the program, the spot markers show up, and a nice list of the spot temps on the photo, but the # next to the spot markers is still missing, Dohh! And it is still bothersome that once you create a report, you can not go back and edit the image and have the changes show up in the “existing” report. You have to create a whole new report. But since the report is simply a pdf, which is a huge convenience, I can see how you wouldn’t expect the changes to transfer. It would be really nice to be able to change the actual Image File Name after you have imported them, like "Build B - East side". Becasue this file name will always show up above the image in reports that you create. Now you have to prescan all your images in a finder window and rename them prior to importing. Kind of a pain. But hey, considering the price :-) I now have no real complaints. And given the fact that they even bothered to make a version for MAC makes me happy. So It’s gone from decent to good in my opinion. Maybe Version 3 will be great.

While my iPhone is not a full fledged Infrared Thermal Imager (yet) I think this app is great to expand awareness around Uptime Elements like Asset Condition Management (ACM) and how Infrared Thermal Imaging can be used for early detection of potential failures in electrical equipment and rotating equipment. Using a tool like this can assist managers in understanding why they need to move from reactive maintenance (run till it breaks and fix it fast) to proactive maintenance (detect the potential failure prior to it affecting function or production) so the repair maintenance scheduled effectively and efficiently. This app is likely to get younger generation - who are not too thrilled about investigating careers in equipment maintenance, a little more excited about some of the high tech aspects of the modern maintenance relability profession.

This version is much better than the previous version and is worth the upgrade for the features IF you are not already a previous version user. BUT, do not upgrade until you are finished working with images you already have in your library becuase the software will "forget" the associations between IR and visual images of your entire library. Once this happens, you really cant create a usable report from your older images. Yup, Flir just rendered the last year of my work almost pointless without being able to create reports from the data. So, my opinion is that it is better than before, but I would not have upgraded if Flir told me up-front they were going to delete all the associations.

You can import photos taken using FLIR ONE app (although not officially supported) into FLIR TOOLS and analyze them. However, movies taken with FLIR ONE can not be imported or analyzed in any fashion using this app.
